Educational Use
MyCology is a personal mushroom journal for education and recreation. Species names and information in the app are not professional identifications.
Never Rely on the App for Consumption
Do not eat a wild mushroom based on a name, photo, record, or other information in MyCology. A mistaken identification can cause serious illness or death.
Verify Independently
If you are considering consuming a wild mushroom, seek an in-person assessment from a qualified local mushroom expert. A photo or app record cannot establish that a mushroom is safe to eat.
Your Records
You are responsible for the species names and other details you enter. MyCology may display incomplete or incorrect information, so use independent judgment and appropriate caution outdoors.
Photos Submitted for Identification
Submit only photos you own or have permission to share. When you request identification, you authorize MyCology to send the photo and available sighting coordinates and observation time through its Firebase backend to Kindwise.
You grant Kindwise the non-exclusive, unlimited, and irrevocable photo license described in Section 17.5 of its API terms. This permits commercial use and modification, including AI training, providing photos to other customers, and sharing under Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 or later. Kindwise states that human faces are blurred before further reuse.
Deleting your MyCology account does not revoke this license or automatically delete information previously submitted to Kindwise. Read the Privacy Policy for more information.
